The HP 418663-001 (also known as AE496A or AE496-63001) is a StorageWorks 4/64 SAN Switch Power Pack — a complete 4/64-port 4 Gbps Fibre Channel SAN switch from HP's B-Series (Brocade-based) storage networking portfolio.

This is a high-availability, enterprise SAN switch that provides 64 Fibre Channel ports (32 active ports by default in the "Power Pack" bundle, with the option to license and activate the remaining 32 ports). It is based on Brocade Fabric OS and was designed for mid-size to large Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SANs) in the mid-2000s to early 2010s.

Key capabilities:

• 32 active 4 Gbps FC ports (expandable to 64 with additional port licenses)
• High-availability design with redundant power supplies, redundant fans, and non-disruptive firmware upgrades
• Advanced fabric services including zoning, ISL trunking, fabric routing, QoS, and Brocade's Fabric Vision tools (when licensed)

It was commonly deployed as an edge switch or small core switch in HP StorageWorks SAN fabrics, connecting servers to storage arrays (HP EVA, XP, 3PAR, etc.) or as part of larger multi-switch fabrics.

The HBC is the main control board (often called Library Controller or HBC) located at the front of the card cage in the SL3000 base module. It serves as the central brain of the library, managing:

Overall library operations
Robotics coordination (TallBot / HandBot movements)
Cartridge inventory and mapping
Host communication (via TCP/IP or FC-SCSI)
Drive control and monitoring
Pass-thru port (PTP) and CAP (Cartridge Access Port) operations
Error logging, diagnostics, and firmware execution

The HBC card runs the library firmware and boot-strap code. In SL3000 systems, there is typically one primary HBC (with optional HBCR redundant variant in some configs, but SL3000 is single-HBC standard). Failure of the HBC usually causes the library to go offline, robotics to halt, or the system to enter degraded/service mode with errors like "HBC failure" or "library controller fault."

The NetApp FAS2240 (and the closely related FAS2220) is a compact, entry-level/mid-range unified storage controller from NetApp’s FAS2000 series, released around 2011–2012. It is a 2U rack-mountable dual-controller system designed for small to medium businesses, remote offices, and departmental deployments.

The FAS2240 / FAS2220 is a unified storage platform that supports both block (iSCSI, FC, FCoE) and file (NFS, CIFS/SMB) protocols in a single system. It comes with dual active/active controllers for high availability and uses ONTAP operating system.

Key hardware characteristics of the FAS2240:

• 2U chassis with 24 × 2.5" SFF or 12 × 3.5" LFF drive bays (model dependent)
• Dual controllers (active/active HA pair)
• Onboard ports: 4 × 1 GbE + 2 × 10 GbE (or 8 Gb FC depending on configuration)
