IBM 01LJ138 Storwize V7000 G2, V9000 LFF HS Caddy

The IBM 01LJ138 is the official hot-swap drive caddy (also called LFF hard drive tray, carrier, or sled) for 3.5-inch Large Form Factor (LFF) drives in the IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 (models 2076-524/624/724) and Storwize V9000 systems (and compatible expansion enclosures).

This is a tool-less, hot-swappable drive tray designed to securely hold and mount standard 3.5-inch SAS/SATA HDDs or SSDs into the Storwize V7000 Gen2 or V9000 front drive bays. It features:

• Black plastic/metal construction with a spring-loaded latch
• ESD (electrostatic discharge) protection
• Vibration-dampening mounts to reduce drive wear in dense enclosures
• LED pass-through for drive activity/fault indicators
• Alignment pins/guides for fool-proof insertion into the backplane

The caddy is mandatory for installing or replacing drives in these systems — bare drives cannot be inserted directly. It is the exact same tray used in most IBM Storwize V7000 Gen2 and V9000 enclosures (24-bay LFF or 12-bay LFF configurations).

Failure to use the correct tray (or using a mismatched tray from V7000 Gen1, V5000, or other vendors) can cause:

• Drive not detected
• Backplane connection failure
• Vibration-induced errors
• Improper seating or ejection

This tray is a very common FRU (Field Replaceable Unit) when trays are lost, damaged, cracked, or worn out during drive replacements.
