The Cisco 3745-IO-2FE (also referenced as Cisco Catalyst 3745 2-Port Fast Ethernet IO Controller) is an internal daughtercard / I/O controller that was factory-installed or field-replaceable on the Cisco 3745 Modular Access Router (part of the Cisco 3700 Series routers, launched early 2000s).

Product Description

This small card mounts directly onto the motherboard of the Cisco 3745 router and adds two additional Fast Ethernet (10/100 Mbps) RJ-45 ports (typically labeled FastEthernet0/2 and FastEthernet0/3 in IOS) beyond the two built-in Fast Ethernet ports on the base chassis (FastEthernet0/0 and FastEthernet0/1).

Key points:

  • It is not a modular network module (NM), WAN interface card (WIC), or external card — it is an integrated I/O controller soldered or plugged internally.
  • Adds basic Layer 2 Ethernet connectivity (10/100 Mbps, full/half-duplex, autosensing) for LAN segments, DMZ, separate VLANs, or connecting to downstream switches/routers.
  • Fully integrated with the router's main forwarding engine — supports all standard Cisco IOS Layer 2/3 features on these ports (VLANs, QoS, ACLs, static routing, etc.).
  • Commonly seen in Cisco 3745 configurations that needed more than two Fast Ethernet ports without consuming external WIC/NM slots.

• 2 x 10/100 Mbps RJ-45 Fast Ethernet ports
• Auto-negotiation for speed (10/100 Mbps) and duplex (full/half)
• Supports 802.1Q VLAN trunking and VLAN routing
• Integrated MAC address learning and switching
• QoS, ACL, and security features via Cisco IOS
• Plug-in network module for Cisco 3745
• LED indicators for link/activity and speed
